A couple of years ago, I created a large bulletin board to hang in the hallway off my kitchen.  It replaced a small bulletin board that just wasn’t cutting it.  I LOVE this board because of the quantity of children’s artwork it can display along with birthday invitations, thank you notes, etc.  It was pretty easy to make and a relatively cheap project.

I should probably display a few less pieces of artwork in order to see the bulletin board fabric more, but their art is just so darn cute!

The piece of insulation board costs about $12 and can be cut down to any size.  Just add on the cost of fabric, and you could easily make this custom bulletin board for $20.  My fabric is from JoAnn Fabrics in the upholstery section.

I didn’t take step-by-step photos of this project, since I created it in my pre-blogging days.  But the instructions on makinglemonadeblog.com are great.

I just made a couple of tweaks to her directions:

• I skipped the “nailhead” trim around the edges, solely because I wanted to get it done quickly
• Instead of screwing through the board into the wall, I installed a wire picture hanger on the back.

Here is the back of my board.  As you can see, I took the lazy easy route.  I used clear packing tape to secure the fabric nice and tight, and I used plain thumbtacks periodically along the border as back up for the tape.  I didn’t even heat up the glue gun for this project!
