Unless you’re a professional organizer, we all have areas of our house that are in desperate need of an overhaul. For me, I needed bathroom organization under sink! I hated digging through the bins so much that I would almost change my mind about needing medicine! But read on for how some affordable organizers and an afternoon transformed the space!
Bathroom Organization Under Sink – Getting Motivated
I’m currently reading Secrets of an Organized Mom, and motivated me! I like tackling organization projects in small doses, and I figured one bathroom cabinet was a do-able and short summer project.
So here’s the before photo. Thank goodness for the random and mismatched plastic bins, or this really would have been a terrible disaster!
Bathroom Organization Under Sink – Materials and Strategy
I wanted to maximize the vertical space in the cabinet, and I wanted drawers that I could easily pull out. Unstacking bins to get to the bin at the bottom was getting old!
I ended up going with Sterilite stacking drawers. Each one is about the size of a shoe box, which is a great size for storing a reasonable number of items without things getting buried. I put three stacking drawers on each side of the cabinet (6 total). If you’re looking for smaller drawers, this 5-drawer unit might be a good option.
I emptied out the cabinets and sorted the items into categories. Then, each category went into a drawer. It was a bit shocking to see how many duplicate medicines we owned. We apparently couldn’t find the medicine we needed and just bought another a few different times. Those days are now over!
Because the pipes are in the middle of the cabinet, I left the middle open and stored the larger items there.
Bathroom Organization Under Sink – Finished Product!
Isn’t this so much more manageable? I’m in love!
I created labels for the drawers using my Silhouette and gold vinyl. Amaker would work just as well! The point is to make it clear what belongs in each drawer, so the whole family can keep it organized.
My drawer categories are:
- Vitamins
- Cold & allergy
- First aid
- Misc. medicine (Tums, dramamine, etc.)
- Extra products (2 drawers)
Here’s a close-up of one of the drawer labels. I chose gold because (1) I already had it on hand, and (2) I wanted the labels to be subtle.
Check out the difference in the before & after photo!
