It’s summer in Texas, which means it is H-O-T. When it comes to dessert, I often want something cold. And what could be better than a doughnut ice cream sandwich?
Inspired by this Good Housekeeping recipe, I made a variation of the Hazelnut Mocha ‘Wich (largest photo).
Doughnut Ice Cream Sandwiches – Ingredients
I know the end product will be good if I would love eating each ingredient individually!
- Glazed chocolate doughnuts
- Ice cream
- Nutella
The recipe calls for coffee ice cream, but since I knew some people who would be eating this dessert don’t like coffee, I opted for the Bride’s Cake flavor from a popular southern ice cream maker. Any vanilla or vanilla-based flavor would also be great.
As I found out, not all doughnut shops make a glazed chocolate doughnut. Call around before you go to buy them. And make sure they know you’re asking for a chocolate doughnut with glaze on it (not a regular doughnut glazed with chocolate). The doughnut (donut??) lingo can be confusing! For those who live in Houston, Shipley Do-Nuts is where to go!
Assemble the Sandwiches
- Using a sharp knife, cut each doughnut in half.
- Spread a generous layer of Nutella on one cut side.
- Add a scoop or two of ice cream.
- Place top half of doughnut on top.
- Serve immediately!
No baking required, and this cold and indulgent dessert hits the spot!
Seriously… doesn’t this make your mouth water? You will not be sorry you tried this no-cook / no-bake recipe!
These doughnut ice cream sandwiches would be a great dessert to cool off with on the 4th of July! It might just make you the hit of the party too!
